Answering the most commonly asked questions that staff and students bring to the library

You will need your T-Card number and the Password that you receive on registration to access online library facilities both on and off-campus.
All students and staff also have a personal library account where it is possible to check which items that you have on loan and also the dates that items are due back. It will also have details of any outstanding fines on your account.

IT Tralee Library subscribes to two ebook packages: eBook Academic Collection and Sage Reference Online. These packages allow access to over 160,000 online books representing a broad range of academic subject matter. These allow you to read and download free to any device that has Internet connection, so you do not need to be in the Library to read them.

eBooks have the ability to search an entire eBook for specific keywords and allows you to save and print a selected number of pages. You can also download an eBook to a laptop or other device for 1 week and access it it offline.

You can search for ebooks using Multisearch or choose from one of the collections listed below.

eBook Academic Collection is a growing subscription package currently contains over 160,000 eBooks representing a broad range of academic subject matter.

Sage Reference Online includes access to SAGE Handbooks, which offers 80 titles of authoritative and comprehensive overviews of key sub disciplinary areas across the social sciences.

The Library Exam Papers Database holds exam papers in all academic subject areas in the Institute. Exam papers are made available to patrons for a period of 5 years, after which they are removed from the live database to an archival database in the library. Papers are archived by: Year / School / Semester / Department / Subject.

Books that you have borrowed are renewed automatically, up to six times, provided that no other reader has reserved or put a hold on the book. You will be e-mailed a number of days before the book must be returned when the maximum number of automatic renewals has been reached or if someone has placed a hold on the book. There are three main Wi-Fi networks available on campus, one for staff, one for students and Eduroam, which can be used by staff and students from other Irish Higher Education Institutes and organisations. Temporary Wi-Fi networks will also sometimes be made available on campus for specific events. Students and staff will be asked to login in to the relevant Wi-Fi using their T-Numbers and Passwords. Information skills training normally takes place once or twice a year for each class group and is booked by your lecturers. The library also offers one-to-one and small group Please see Information Skills for more details.
Our Academic Liaison Librarians also offer classes tailored to the information needs of your specific course. The Library Research Skills and Information Literacy Training guide – offers a detailed overview of the level and scope of training that is available.
Library staff also conduct one-to-one and small group inductions that can be booked by students. You can make an appointment to meet with your Academic Liaison Librarian (See Opposite) to discuss your specific information needs. You can access the library’s electronic resources including databases, eBooks, eJournals, and past exam papers using your student T Number and password. Access to our electronic resources is available both on and off-campus by using Multisearch or browsing the online resources page.

The Inter-Library Loan (ILL) Service allows users to borrow items such as Books, Journal Articles and Theses from other libraries. Material in electronic format e.g. e-journal articles can also be sourced using ILL.
Requests can be submitted at the library desk or by using the Inter Library Loan Form
Allocations/Charges
Undergraduate Students: Students are entitled to two free book loans per year from other Institutes of Technology in Ireland.
All other requests by students are charged:
Books: €7.60
Journals: €5.00
The fees are payable when the Item is picked up. Please note that users will be charged the fee if they fail to pickup the ILL.
